The Viperjet MKII was an evolution.  It first started as a dream by Scott Hanchette who talked his brother Dan into chasing it with him.  It was my first aircraft design job, taking it from Scott's dream to reality.

The aircraft started as the Viperfan.  A turbocharged Continental engine was to be installed and a drive shaft turn an impressive 5-bladed propeller.

As the prototype construction progressed, it was soon evident from the intrest that a jet engine was needed.  A few iterations later, the MKII took to the air powered with a J85 turbojet engine.
